Kiani Beach Resort, Crete
There is nothing more satisfying than stepping off a plane to be met with a warm blast of summer on your skin. I felt instantly relaxed and free. My shoulders drop and I’m ready to switch off. We’re on holiday and have escaped the humdrum of daily life. No school run, no miserable weather, no routine, no cats patting my face at 6am asking for food. A week of spending good quality time with the family. Hooray!
We pull up outside Kiani Beach Resort, our home for the next seven days. We were greeted by the warm and friendly reception staff, who suggested we have lunch before we checked-in. So, we headed to the Symposium dining hall which overlooked the beach, in the main hotel.
After lunch we were driven to our room by the hotel porter. As we walked in, there was a welcome gift filled with fresh fruit and wine and the children had a welcome pack too which included pencils, colouring and two fruity drinks. The room was stocked with fresh bottled water and kept cool in the fridge. The room itself was located in the newly refurbished part of the hotel. The room was spacious, light, airy and had a strong Scandinavian feel to it. The bed was enormous & extremely comfy. As soon as your ‘head hit the pillow’, you were in a dreamy slumber. The children’s bedroom joined to our room and included a TV which they were delighted about. The room was air-conditioned, had a mini kitchenette and a terrace which overlooked the sea.
The New Wing & It’s Facilities
Once we were settled, we decided to explore the hotel. As we walked out of our room, we were seconds away from the sun loungers which surrounded the pool. The pool is a great size and even includes a 50 metre lane for those that want to exercise. Next to the pool, is the bar which serves drinks & freshly made crepes for the majority of the day. Along with a fridge stocked with freshly prepared sandwiches, salads, desserts, canapes and lots more. The kids loved the unlimited amount of ice cream which they could help themselves too.
Opposite the pool bar, stands a gated children’s play area with swings, a climbing frame and much more. The kids loved hanging out there whilst we had an afternoon drink at the bar.
Next to the play area is a kids splash pool which includes slides. The pool is super shallow with the water coming up to my ankles. The pool is perfect for babies and very young children. Olivia loved splashing around in it, whereas Finn wanted to spend his time swimming in deeper waters.
The Pool Bar, is also home to the evening’s entertainment. Every night after dinner, the kids had a little dance at the children’s disco and then we would settle into the evening’s entertainment. The magic show was Finn and Olivia’s entertainment highlight of the week.
The new wing’s Pool View Restaurant has a large buffet style dining room which serves a variety of delicious meals – morning, noon and night. All food is freshly prepared and sourced using the finest locally produced ingredients. We loved the dedicated children’s buffet as it was filled with lots of nutritious meals along with good staples too. The restaurant has a lovely terrace offering the perfect setting for a little alfresco dining. The staff were super friendly and always happy to help.
The new wing has an indoor heated pool, spa, gym and the indoor children’s kids club.
The Indoor pool became the place where we hung out when the warm October sun began to set. We would usually head there around 4pm for a dip before dinner. We found it wasn’t busy in the afternoons and we would often have the pool to ourselves.
The Spa is the perfect place if you want to feel truly relaxed and pampered. The beauty rooms were beautifully presented and made you feel instantly relaxed as you walked in. I booked a back & face massage on my last day. It was heavenly.
The Kids Club programme offers lots of activities to keep your little ones occupied. As Olivia is under 4 years old, she needed the supervision of a parent. Finn and Olivia took part in a few of the activities which include a craft morning, movie night and fishing. The kids thoroughly enjoyed each activity and loved the enthusiasm and friendliness of the staff.
The main hotel has a large lounge reception, excursion booking area, a children’s play area which includes a large pirate ship, two pools, Bar Dioysos (which has lots of evening entertainment), tennis courts, volleyball & sports area, large dining hall, supermarket and an indoor playroom with arcades and a snooker table. The main hotel is located on a sandy beach. Perfect for building sandcastles.
If you want to explore Crete, the travel team at Kiani Beach Resort are happy to help. After two days at the hotel, we decided to see abit more of the beautiful island. Our travels took at us to Chania, Elafonisis (the beach with the pink sand) and Kournas Lake. All three locations were breath taking and I would highly recommend. Elafonisis, took 90 minutes by car, however there are lots of things to see along the way. Our final excursion was a trip on a speedboat to snorkel in a beautiful cove and to visit a deserted island. The sea was so calm and so clear. It was a really magical experience for us all to share.

The resort values the environment and sees itself as an eco-friendly hotel. The new wing of the hotel was built using sustainable materials. It continues to be eco-friendly with its huge recycling programme. It also sources its food & drink from local suppliers to support the local community and to be more sustainable.
Kalyves Beach Hotel
One afternoon, we decided to visit Kiani Beach Resort sister hotel Kalyves Beach Hotel, set in the heart of Kalyves village in Chania. The hotel is more much intimate than Kiani Beach Resort and is the ideal location for small families or even a romantic trip for just a couple. The hotel is situated on the beautiful sandy beach and is surrounded by quaint village shops and traditional Cretan scenery. We spent an afternoon at Kalyves Beach Hotel and by the end the children didn’t want to leave.
What We Thought
Our stay at Kiani Beach Resort was truly wonderful and we would highly recommend the hotel to anyone with a young family such as ours.
We travelled in October half term and was pleasantly surprised by the good weather. It was between 23 – 26 degrees across the week. We would definitely consider travelling again that time of year.
We flew via Stansted and hired a car from Heraklion airport. The travel was really easy. However, you can fly into Chania directly and the hotel will arrange a free transfer. The travel time from Chania is around 25 minutes by car. So super quick!
Kiani Beach Resort was the perfect place to spend quality time with the family. We created some life long memories which made even more special by the lovely staff, the hotel facilities, the delicious food, the wonderful excursions and the entertainment. Thank you, Kiani Beach Resort, for having us. We hope to see you sometime soon.
The hotel stay was gifted by Seacrete Hotels and I paid for the flights and car hire. All opinions are my own and have been no way influenced by Seacrete Hotels.
