Living in South West London, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to delightful, independent restaurants to tickle our taste-buds. We have everything from authentic Japanese, Tapas to Dirty burgers, there really is something for everyone. So when we were asked to step out of South London and sample the cusine at The Chilli Pickle in Guildford, we thought we would give it a try. Plus Guildford is insane for shopping.
Indian Street Food restaurant The Chilli Pickle specialises in Thalis, Curries and Kebabs. With a strong focus on seasonality and sustainability, the menu is rich in flavour and variety for even the youngest of palettes.
We decided to head there for a spot of lunch. As we were walked in, we were struck by the colourful décor which echoes the streets of Varanasi Ghats or the Rain Utsav in Kutch. It was beautiful. You could tell the owners were passionate about Indian food and had a strong connect with the culture.
We were shown to our seats and were guided through the menu. There was so much choice, even the kids menu sounded delicious.
We ordered a popadom and chutney’s as an appetiter and the children were given some pencils so they could colour the children’s menu. We didn’t wait too long before our starter arrived. We were presented with the yummiest Vegetable Samosa Chat, which was filled with so many delicious flavours and the portion size was perfect to share with one another.
For mains, I decided to sample the Thalis and had the the Sri Lankan Seabass Curry, the dish was heavenly.
Mr J had the Tandoori Open Nann, with Sigri Red Chicken Tikka. Oh my what a feast, the flavours were out if this world. Both dishes were huge.
Finn and Olivia loved the Kid Friendly menu and we loved the Indian twist, there was not a crumb left on their plate.
After lunch, Finn ventured upstairs to the kitchen to meet the chef and to learn how to make Naan Bread, he loved it.
The food, the service, the decor was spot on. We loved that children were welcome too. The Chilli Pickle is somewhere where I would definitely re-visit, if only they would open one in South West London, we would be there every week.
Thank you The Chilli Pickle for having us. We had the most amazing time and your food is out of this world.
