The Curious Mummy Meets BUD Fertility

Tell us a bit about yourself?

We are Tim and Sarita Heard – the founders of Bud Nutrition. I (Tim) am originally a designer by trade and run a small creative studio based in south west London. We are very proud parents to three gorgeous children, who since their arrival, have changed our lives dramatically – and for the better.

Tell us more about your Journey with Bud?

TIM – Bud came about a few years after my wife and I suffered from unexplained secondary infertility. We were very lucky with our first daughter, Rohini, arriving within a year of us getting married. We thought it was easy, but trying two years later to conceive again, proved a lot more challenging. Being an only child myself, I felt extra emotional pressure to try and provide a sibling for our daughter. A couple of very difficult and frustrating years passed in which we were poked, prodded and tested for everything – all without conclusion.

We turned to IVF and with help from the amazing team at Guy’s, St Thomas’ Hospital in London, we were blessed with twins; Sunny and Priya, who are now just turning six.

The experience has stayed with us and every day we are grateful to have come out the other end. It has served as inspiration for us to try and help others, (before they get to the IVF stage), to create Bud, which stands forBabies, Under Development!

SARITA At the time, we received amazing support from the few people that we could share and talk openly with, but it wasn’t easy! We found that information was key. There were a number of disparate online resources, but no single site that combined, information, news, articles, firsthand stories and forums. So, to support Bud, we created our own – combining all of the above, in to a single, bright, informative and upbeat resource.

Fertility can affect both Men and Women, so how does Bud Fertility supplements help couples conceive?

The facts are that many of us lead busy, stressful and not so healthy lifestyles and are leaving parenthood until later – my wife and I included.

One in Seven couple in the UK, (3.5 million people) have difficulty conceiving* and male sperm count has dropped by 50% in the last 40 years**

We took fertility supplements and whilst they weren’t a magic pill for us, they became an important part of our focus to improve our overall health and chances of conceiving; nutrition, lifestyle, fitness, emotional and overall wellbeing.

In creating our formulas, we worked with Clinical Nutritionist Dr Adam Cunliffe PhD (RNutr), to develop a new and better informed standard of fertility supplement. Our brief was to only use ingredients that are supported by published scientific references.

Are they suitable for everyone?

Our products are 100% natural, so the short answer is yes. Improving your Nutritional health doesn’t happen overnight – sperm production takes 90 days to complete – so we recommend you start taking Bud Fertility supplements for at least three months leading up to when you first start ‘trying’.

Could you use the supplements if you are undergoing IVF?

Again, the short answer is yes, but always double check and discuss with your consultants – they will want to know everything about you. Going through IVF is a physical challenge for women and an emotional one for both partners, so you need to do everything you can to boost and maintain all your aspects of your physical wellbeing, whilst going through the cycles.

Can the supplements help regulate your menstrual cycle?

Peruvian Maca is in both our formulas, but for women this powerful adaptogen works to balance female hormones, improve regularity of cycles, enhance ovulation and support reproductive function. It is also provides a concentrated source of vitamins and minerals to help properly nourish your body in preparation for pregnancy.

What are your top tips in getting pregnant?

The best advice I can give, based on personal experience is to stay calm. It is far easier said than done, but positive mental and emotional well-being plays a far bigger part than we might imagine.
